Family Therapy

WHEN YOUR CHILD OR TEEN IS STRUGGLING, WE WANT TO HELP

Children experience life in two places–home and school. When a child struggles in either environment or both, counselling can be an effective solution.

YOUR CHILD MAY BENEFIT FROM THERAPY IF THEY EXHIBIT ANY OF THE FOLLOWING:
  • Anger and/or reactivity

  • Anxiety

  • Depression

  • ADHD

  • Self-harm (cutting)

  • Trauma

  • Attachment-related issues

  • Substance abuse

  • Other behavioral issues

When working with children and youth, our counselors use a “multi-systemic” approach. With proper consent, we engage parents, grandparents, teachers, schools, previous counselors and any other relevant support systems.

Our office also teaches parents to advocate for proper support for their child. We ensure services are coordinated and consistent as this often creates the structure that helps your child or teen grow.

OUR CHILD AND ADOLESCENT THERAPY INCLUDES:

  • Collaborative treatment that encourages both the individual and their parents/ guardians to pinpoint difficulties, create goals, and work on solutions together

  • Effective interventions that promote engagement, using the positive strengths of your child and family to reach goals

  • Therapeutic tools that help track improvements and specify growth areas

  • Consultation and coordination with other professionals and services to reinforce improvements

  • Give your child the tools and support they need to flourish. Book an appointment with one of our registered therapists today.

YOUTH THREAT RISK ASSESSMENTS

HELP KEEP YOUR CHILD OR TEEN SAFE WITH THREAT RISK ASSESSMENTS

At-risk youth can present specific symptoms, such as self-harm, aggression, violence, and even homicidal. As a parent, friend, mentor, or relative, seeing such behaviors in someone you love is terrifying. There are ways to help. With both professional and community support, we can develop an effective means of intervention.

WE CREATE HOLISTIC PLANS TO HELP MINIMIZE RISK.

In the past, single agencies or individuals have approached an at-risk youth’s interventions with a lack information and can take certain issues out of context (issues like mental health, substance use, challenges in learning, sensory issues, and trauma). Instead of cycling through these misinformed interventions, Ian Robertson and his team use a multi-disciplinary approach.

By bringing in family, school, agencies and other support systems, we can create a highly-effective, community-based plan:

  • Throughout the entire process, we develop clear short- and long-term goals.

  • The youth’s trauma responses are understood and clinically supported.

  • No person, family, clinician, or agency is left to manage the high-risk (cycling) youth single-handedly.

  • Client and service providers work more collaboratively and effectively with the youth.

  • We use more effective, less intrusive interventions.

Our agency’s clinical approach allows us to gather an in-depth assessment of high-risk youth, and develop a treatment plan accordingly.
